Belize Cultural Celebrations: National Pageantry, Heritage Festivals & Culinary Events

Belize celebrates an energetic, year-round calendar of national holidays and cultural festivals that showcase its diverse ethnic traditions. The highlight of the civic calendar is the vibrant ‘September Celebrations,’ a month-long patriotic jubilee commemorating the Battle of St. George’s Caye on September 10 (honoring the 1798 victory over the Spanish fleet) and Independence Day on September 21, featuring massive street carnivals, soca music concerts, and fireworks.

In November, attention shifts to southern Belize for Garifuna Settlement Day on November 19, marked by pre-dawn canoe reenactments on the beaches of Dangriga and Hopkins, followed by all-night drumming ceremonies, Paranda music, and community feasts. In the summer months, coastal towns celebrate the opening of the spiny lobster season with colorful Lobster Festivals in San Pedro, Caye Caulker, and Placencia, drawing food lovers from around the world.
